Legacy Parks – Legacy People

Legacy Parks – Legacy People

celebration & fund-raising event

Fri., Oct. 17, 2014, 5:30-9 p.m.

Bottega, Kelowna

Legacy Parks—Legacy People is the first gala event organized by the Central Okanagan Land Trust, the local land conservation trust for the past 20 years. The twin goals of this event are to celebrate the parkland places that define the unique natural landscape beauty of the Central Okanagan and honour leaders in this conservation work.

This year, the event honours Robert Hobson and his family, who have dedicated their time and energy to local government for the past 25 years, ensuring the Okanagan’s natural features are preserved for future generations.

Despite retiring this year from local politics, the Hobsons continue in a leadership role with a challenge to the community to match their donation of $25,000 to carry on the land trust’s work.

While the evening will be a celebration of Robert Hobson’s community work over the past quarter century, it also will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Central Okanagan Regional District’s parks department and the legacy it has preserved in parkland—with Hobson at the helm and at times in partnership with the Central Okanagan Land Trust.

From such high-use parks as the Mission Creek Greenway and Gellatly Nut Farm to fragile habitats such as Robert Lake and the Johns Family Nature Conservancy Regional Park, this parks program is a role model for other jurisdictions in the province.

Tickets for this Harvest to Table buffet event are now available, but they are limited. Purchase of each ticket for $100 includes a charitable tax receipt for $50, and an opportunity to bid on a variety of silent auction items.
